Josephine Lodina Gensaw, a Yurok Tribal Member of Klamath, CA, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 23, at her home in Klamath at the age of 78. Josephine was born April 15, 1932 in Arcata, CA.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Gensaw Sr., brothers Darrel and Jimmy, sister Louise and her son Kenneth Charles.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her brothers Elmer Thornton and wife Roseann of Crescent City, CA, and Robert Lafette Donahue, daughter Peggy Sue Gensaw of Eureka, sons: Joseph William Gensaw Sr. and wife Joyce Gensaw of Klamath, CA, Curtis Gensaw and Sherell Bostwick of Klamath, CA, grandchildren: Jamie Brown, Judy James, Stacy Charles Sr., Cecil Charles, Oscar Gensaw III and fiancè Georgiana Myers, James Gensaw and wife Angela, Janell Montgomery, Joseph Gensaw Jr. and wife Angie, Jasmine Gensaw Kay, Magnolia and husband Nathan White, Camelia and husband Michael Cardoza, Justin Gensaw, Joshua Gensaw, William Gensaw, Charles Gensaw, Teresita Gensaw, great grandchildren: Orion, Phoenix, Draco, Perseus, Aeris, Magnolia Amalie, Enoch, Thayallen, David, James Jr., Tescha, Cheygo'onep, William, Mathew, Andrew, Joseph III, Taylor, Lita, Emily, Stacey Jr, Alicia, Khyia, Brandon, Nicole, Gregory, Kiera, Tiera, Mathias, Ceth, Curtis; great-great-grandchildren: Ye-womi-y, Stacey III and Alexis.
A special thank you to nieces Irene, Brandy, Kathy, Lori, Linda Lee and kids, and nephew Brian, and to all the nephews and nieces in Warm Springs and their families because there are too many of you to name. Last but not least the staff at Cher-ae Heights Casino for all their love and happiness they brought to her.
Mom, you were the rock that held the family together! Josephine will be remembered as a great mother, grandmother, homemaker and great fisherwoman.
Visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, December 28, from noon until 5 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 29, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Funeral Services will be at Wier's Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, December 29, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at the Gensaw Family Plot in Requa, CA.
Family and friends are invited for fellowship at the Yurok Tribal Building starting at 3:00 p.m.
Arrangement are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City, CA.
