Cornelio was the son of Jose Victor Cordova and Juana Maria Roybal. Identified siblings were: Maria Victoria, Jose de Jesus Eligio, Cirilio, Maria Gregoria, Jose Tolsie, Beatrice, Telesforo, and Apolonio. Cornelio's wife was named Adriana. Their identified children were Rumaldo and Delfina.

On 5 June 1917, Cornelio Cordova (B: 16 Sep 1886, Chamisal) registed for the World War I Draft in Lake County, Colorado. He was described as single, medium height, stout build, light grey eyes, black hair, and a smelter with American Smelting in Leadville, Colorado (WWI Draft Card). Cornelio served with Company K of the 70th Infantry Regiment.

The 70th Infantry Regiment was created on 9 July 1918 and was assigned to the 10th Infantry Division. The regiment was organized on 10 August 1918 at Camp Funston, Kansas. The 70th was relieved from the 10th Division and demoblized on 13 February 1919 at Camp Funston.
