Frank Monroe was the brother of local painter Walt Monroe. Frank died while ice fishing with "Luke" (Louis) Olds at Mud Lake on February 1, 1904, when both young men fell through the ice. Frank was not married. (Los Angeles Herald, February 1, 1904).
According to anecdotal information, Frank is buried "out on a point" at the Markleeville Cemetery, in or near the Barrett plot. A photo of his wooden headstone (now fallen to dust) is in the Alpine County Museum's collection.
Frank's brother Walt is buried in the Old Woodfords Cemetery in Alpine County (Memorial #126311177).
