Birth: unknown, Ireland
Death: Jul. 17, 1897
Mono County
California, USA

Mrs. Lynch, formerly of Belleville, died near Benton on July 17th. (Walker Lake Bulletin (Hawthorne, NV), 8/11/1897)

Born about 1838, Mrs. Lynch was the wife of Jeremiah Lynch who was born abt 1828 in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, and the mother of John (b. abt 1850 MA), Jeremiah (b. abt 1854 MA), Ellen Ruth (b. abt 1847 MA), Timothy (b. abt 1858 CA), William (b. 1860 CA), Mary Elizabeth (b. abt 1862 NV) and Maggie (b. abt 1866 NV).

In 1878 Mr. Lynch was the proprietor of the California House hotel at Benton. (Bodie Weekly Standard, 7/17/1878) A year later "Mrs J. Lynch" was the proprietress of the California House. (Mono Weekly Messenger, 2/8/1879)

About that same time, son John Lynch, together with Clem. Ogg of Belleville (NV) and H. C. Wright of Independence (CA) were beginning to operate a line of stages between Bodie and the Lake Mining District. (Mono Weekly Messenger, 2/8/1879)

"Mrs. Jane Lynch" continued to operate the California Hotel at least until February of 1880. (Benton Bentonian, 2/14/1880) By June of 1881, Mrs. Jane Lynch was operating the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Benton, which she appears to have operated at least through 1882 or after.

In April of 1891 it was announced that "Mrs. Jane Lynch, of Benton, has leased the Belleville Hotel and will take possession on the 15th." (Chloride Belt (Candelaria, NV), 4/4/1891.) Two weeks earlier, son Timothy Lynch had died at Belleville at the age of 32 years. (Chloride Belt, 3/21/1891)

In June of 1899, the Bridgeport Chronicle-Union published a Mono County Delinquent Tax Sale Notice. Included on the list of properties was an entry for the "Estate of Mrs. Jane Lynch, William Lynch, Agent." The property for which taxes were delinquent was described to be a "Lot in Town of Benton, on sough side of Main Street and next east of J. L. Millner's store, $10; Improvements thereon, house known as Lynch's Hotel, $70.60. Total tax: $80.60. (Bridgeport Chronicle-Union, 6/17/1899) In November of 1899 it was noted in the Grand Jury Report that the estates of several persons, including Mrs. J. Lynch, were still in the course of settlement. (Bridgeport Chronicle-Union, 11/18/1899)
