Johann Becker was born in Prussia (Germany) and immigrated to the United States in 1848 and headed for the gold fields of California. He enlisted as Private John Becker at Forest City, Sierra County, November 9, 1864, and was mustered into Company K, 7th California Infantry. Private Becker was mustered out at the Presidio of San Francisco March 28, 1866. John married Mary (maiden name unknown; born 1841) in California in 1889. He filed for a Civil War veteran's pension in California August 21, 1890, and received application No. 928,060 and certificate No. 938,333. John and Mary appear as residents of the Homer (later Lundy) Mining District, Mono County, California, in the 1900 US Census. After his death in 1903, Mary filed for a widow's pension July 13, 1903, and received application No. 787,785 and certificate No. 698,788.
