Serious Shooting Affairs at Lundy.

Bodie, October 20th. - Early yesterday morning a messenger came up from Lundy and called Dr. Walker to go to that place to attend three men who were reported to be badly wounded in two shooting scrapes that occurred on Saturday night. The first shooting...occurred soon after 11 o'clock p.m., and in about three hours afterward Deputy Sheriff William Callahan was shot in the same saloon by George M. Lee, and wounded in such a manner that he will be crippled for life, if it does not prove fatal. According to a statement from Callahan the two men were discussing the situation, when Lee was violent in his denunciation of all the officers. Lee then passed out and up to the room where Jardine lay wounded. Callahan threatened to arrest him, whereupon Lee declared that he could not be taken. Callahan then produced a pair of hand-cuffs and was going to put them on him when he said he would go with him if the bracelets were not used. At this point he was about returning the cuffs to his pocket when he Lee draw his pistol, which he struck down as the weapon was discharged at a range to catch him (Callahan) in the leg, just below the hip. the ball took affect in the large bone, shattering it frightfully. At the same instant that Lee's pistol was struck, Callahan drew a revolver with his right hand and struck Lee across the face, breaking his nose. Other statements have it that Callahan struck Lee first, or before Lee fired. The shot is likely to prove fatal, if amputation of the leg is found necessary. Lee was arrested and lodged in jail.
