Son of William, de Cantilupe and Milicent de Gournai. Husband of Eve de Braose and father of Milicent, Juliana and George. His main places of residence were at Calne in Wiltshire and Aston Cantlow in Warwickshire before inheriting the Abergavenny estates, in which he became Lord Abergavenny when he married Eva de Braose. His brother, Thomas, was Chancellor of England and Bishop of Hereford.
His arms were: De gueules, à trois fleurs de lys d'or.
