Mr. Barnes was a merchant marine during WWII and an Army veteran during the Korean War. He retired from Helig-Myers in March 1990 after 14 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Minton Barnes; two daughters, Cynthia B. Newton of Troy, NC and Ann Felton Lyerly of Greer, SC; a sister, Ina B. Turner of Suffolk, VA; three brothers, Bennie Edison Barnes of Yorktown, VA, Jeff C. Barnes of Courtland, VA and Bennie C. Barnes Jr. of Conway; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., today, in Conway Baptist Church, by the Rev. Robert L. Newton. Burial will follow in Conway Cemetery.
