OBITUARY OF MRS. ANNA FLATHMANN
Anna Flathmann, the second oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Grabau, was born December 29, 1861, in Kuhstadtmoor (sic), Germany. On January 7, 1862, she was baptized in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. A. Ocker. On April 9, 1876, she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Kuhstadtmoor (sic) by the Rev. A. Ocker. She was united in marriage to Claus Flathmann in the year 1880. To this union were born six children, four boys and two girls.
In 1882 they came to America and settled on a farm northwest of Deshler. On April 1, 1891, two of their children were stricken with diphtheria and died on the same day. Just one year later in April, 1892, her husband was taken from her side. On March 6, 1952, another son, Herman, departed this life. The family continued to live on the farm until three years ago when they moved into Deshler.
The departed took seriously ill on Thursday, January 10, 1957. Her condition gradually grew worse until the Lord in his wisdom saw fit to take her from this vale of tears to Himself in heaven on Wednesday afternoon, January 16, at 3:30 o'clock. She departed this life at the age of 95 years and 18 days.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Claus; two sons, Henry and Herman; one daughter, Anna; five brothers, John, Herman, Dick, Claus and Henry Grabau; on sister, Mrs. Sena Johannsen; and two grandchildren, Oscar and Louie Flathmann.
She leaves to mourn her passing: two sons, John of Chester, and William at home; one daughter, Adelaide, also at home; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Segelken of Hebron, Mrs. Mike Ruder of Syracuse, and Mrs. Adelaide Kuhlmann of St. Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Pastor E.C. Werner officiated. He spoke on the text Psalm 71.9. The congregation sang the hymn, "Lord, It Belongs No To My Care". The Male Chorus sang "Thy Way, Not Mine, O Lord". Interment was made in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery - West.
