Born in May 13, 1933 in Louisdale, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Maud (Sampson) and William LeLièvre and step-daughter of the late Harry Landry. A graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, she taught for many years in elementary schools in Louisdale and Evanston, NS, and later while living in the North took great satisfaction in teaching inmates of the Yellowknife Correctional Centre. Nanny Bowden will be forever in our hearts, remembered fondly for her love of visits from family and friends, her joy of baking for those she loved, and her firm belief that a good day ought to include at least one game of cards. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Francis; daughters Rose-Marie (Keith) Manuel of Mount Pearl, NL; Lisa (Dan) Bedell of Dartmouth, NS; sons James (Sue), Louisdale, NS; John (Beverley), Yellowknife, NWT; and Robert (Karen and children Amy and Alan), Sydney, NS. She adored her 13 grandchildren, Napoleon, Misty, Billy, Dionne, Jeffrey, Rachel, Michael, Tanya, Alan, Vanessa, Nicholas, James and Dorion and great- grandchildren Leah, Xavier, Ashlyn, Eli, Savannah, Jackson, Owen and Charlotte, as well as many loving nieces and nephews, and Patricia Britten Bowden, Langley, BC.; sister Hélène (Arthur) Burns; brother Quentin (Viola) Landry, all of Louisdale. She was predeceased by brother William LeLièvre and sister Alvina (Sampson).
Visitation will be today, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and on Wednesday, from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m., in the Glenn Sampson Memorial Room, Louisdale. Funeral mass will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Louisdale with Rev. Will MacPherson officiating, burial to take place in St. Louis Parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the St. Louis parish hall.
