The Reverend Douglas Eugene "Doug" Belcher Sr., age 69, of Burke Mt. near Keystone, W.Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, August 28, 2011 at his residence after a sudden illness. Born April 20, 1942 in Keystone, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harold Joseph Belcher and Lovella Stanley Belcher. At the time of his death, he was the Pastor of The Eckman Trinity Church, Eckman, W.Va. He was a disabled coal miner, and was a former employee of Eastern Associated Coal Co., Keystone #1, with 18 years of service, and also worked for other coal companies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam Era. The Reverend Belcher will also be remembered for his meek and humble spirit and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant child; one grandson, Timothy Belcher Jr.; three brothers, Earnest Belcher, Joe Belcher, and Roger Belcher.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Luella "Lou" Baugham Belcher of the home; three sons, Ronald "Ronnie" Fox and wife Mary of Germanton, N.C., Douglas Belcher Jr. and wife Kerri of Kimball, W.Va., Timmy Belcher Sr. and wife Jodi of Statesville, N.C.; one daughter, Tina Marie Fox Farmer and husband Richard of Northfork, W.Va.; three brothers, Phillip Belcher and wife Chris of Richmond, Va., Theodore Belcher of Powhatan, W.Va., David Belcher and wife Wanda of Burke Mt. near Keystone, W.Va.; four sisters, Carol Belcher Jones of Rising Sun, Md., Betty Phelps of Rising Sun, Md., Joyce Belcher of Virginia, Margaret Robertson and husband Dale of Rising Sun, Md.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, W.Va. with the Reverend Larry Parks officiating. Burial will follow at the Belcher Family Cemetery on Burke Mt. near Keystone, W.Va. where military graveside services will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council and the West Virgina National Guard Honor Guard. Friends may call Wednesday night at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be friends and family.
