From the February 10, 1904 issue of "The LaFayette Sun":

Hootalocco - Charlie Mack, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Abernathy, died Friday night at 12 o'clock. He had been sick only a few days but his suffering was great during this short time. This is the first link that has been taken from this family and it seemed as if these dear loving parent's hearts would break, but in trials like this, they can but look to the Real Comforter for life. Remember, He said, "Suffer little children to come into me, and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven." His remains laid to rest in the cemetery at Macedonia to await the resurrection. We deeply sympathize with these parents, little brothers and sisters, and feel sure that their loss is his eternal gain.

From the February 17, 1904 issue of "The LaFayette Sun":

Gone to Bloom Above.

In memory of little Charlie Mack Abernathy, who departed this life January 20, 1904. He was born May 13, 1902, and was the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Dock Abernathy.

A gentle hand unseen by us,
Has plucked our sweetest bud,
By this alone our grief is blest
It was the hand of God.

O gentle one, we miss thee here,
Sweet form we love so well,
But in our Father's better care
We know the child is well.

In all our hearts he planted deep
This precious little one;
As forth he takes his own we weep,
But say, "Thy will be done."

No care has lavished here in vain
Upon this plant of love,
Tho' soon removed t'will bloom again
In sweeter form above.

Would not our grief forever flow
Upon they silent tomb,
Did not our hearts this comfort know
We'll meet in glory soon.

Dear Jesus, Thou hast died for us,
And for our darling too,
We trust Thee to each providence,
They love is ever true.

Dear Father and Mother, don't weep for him for he has gone to be with loved ones gone before.

His Aunt, Cora Bishop.
