Sgt Reckless - Korean War Horse Hero
A little Sorrel Filly(Mongolian Mare)owned by a young Korean boy named Kim Huk Moon. He sold his beloved mare to buy a an artificial leg for his older sister, Chung Soon. Kim's sister had lost her leg in a landmine accident. Flame-in-the-Morning was purchased in South Korea in 1952 by Marine Lt Eric Pedersen for $250.00 at a Seoul Race Track. She was a chestnut brown mare with a white blaze on her face. Flame-in-the-Morning was renamed Sgt. Reckless by her troop, who trained her to transport ammunition, ignore artillery fire, avoid incoming fire, get into and out of military vehicles, even to string telephone wire! She was brought to the U.S.A. by a Private Company after the war. She lived out her life as a War Hero at Camp Pendleton, CA. Where she is buried. She had 4 Foals.

Reckless' decorations included two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with star, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, all of which she proudly wore on her scarlet and gold blanket.The 68th awarded of the "Dickin Medal" by Great Britan this year postumously.
The story of Sgt Reckless - Korean War Horse Hero. A horse so heroic during the Korean war she was promoted to Staff Sergeant by the Commandant of the US Marine Corps, and is listed alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa and John Wayne as one of our all-time heroes.
