Rough and Ready
Attended grammer school at Mt Dome, Bray and Doris, CA and the Riverside School in Klamath Falls, OR. He graduated from High School at Vallejo, CA and attended Poly Engineering College. He played semi pro football for the Oakland (Alameda County, CA) Barbarians, he was the center.
He married first Bernice Yancey, daughter of Ivan Yancey and Hattie Sears, a friend of his sister.
Bill was the water boy when crewman were laying out the town of Tennant in CA. He worked for the telephone company where he was paid extra for playing on the company baseball team. He also liked to bowl and golf. Bill soloed in a plane for thr first time on 11 Feb 1929 and had a limited pilots license, number 5927. At that same time Bill's parents were running the Marshall House in Klamath falls, which they owned. Bill returned there and found Bernice working for his parents, they were married 23 Aug 1930. They moved to Oakland where Bill bought a Gilmore gas station on the corner of 14th and 22nd Street. He also worked for the Rio Grande Oil Company. During WWII Bill went to work as a rigger at Moore's shipyard in Richmond for 85 cents and hour. Later he built tanks and cracking towers at refineries for $1.65 an hour. Bill helped install penstocks at the Pitt River dam in Northern, CA then returned to the shipyards. He broke his back which ended his steel work.
Bill and Bernice had two children, William R. Stinson born 2 Dec 1932 at San Leandro, CA and Barbara Jo Stinson born 26 Dec 1937 at Oakland. Bill and Bernice divorced in 1943.
Bill married a woman named Ellen and opened a real estate office at the North East corner of the intersection which terminates South Auburn Street in Grass Valley. Bill and Ellen divorced in 1953 or 1954, no issues from this union.
Bill married third Doris Lillian Dunn, they established Stinson Realty located for many years at 429 South Auburn Street at Grass Valley, their home was at 17081 Penn Valley Dr in Penn Valley. They had no issues from their union. Doris died and Bill married 4th, a friend of Doris' Evelyn Sylvester (Evelyn M. Elliott in California Marriage Index) on 19 May 1980 at Eureka, CA. They resided in Rough and Ready in a home next to the post office. Evelyn survived him.
