Following is a part of an article published in the Valley Morning Star Newspaper-Harlingen, Texas: This was written on her retirement. "Velia R. Cantu became the town's link with the outside world beginning on June 16, 1948. After receiving lessons from the postmaster in Roma, Texas, Mrs. Cantu began her duties as she delivered the mail to the citizens of Fronton from her own home. Mrs. Cantu divided the mail alphabetically into boxes so she would sort through the mail under the proper alphabet letters as people came during the day to get their mail which she would personnaly deliver. For nearly thirty years, this was where the town's identity lived, where the mail came addressed; General Delivery, Fronton, Texas. This all ended when Mrs. Cantu retired as post mistress of Fronton having done a very successful job and a service to the community."
