Dude proudly served our country in the United States Navy from November of 1951 to September of 1955, and later worked for many years as a Television Technician at Fikes Appliances in Tulsa, and then joined his wife, Anita, in flea marketing at the Great American Flea Market and was later known for his business, Dude's Picking Post. He was always a cowboy at heart and loved horses, rodeoing, roping and anything else associated with horses. It was also said that he could make and play just about any kind of stringed instrument. He was an avid fan of country music and during his illness, Anita would sing "You Are My Sunshine" and "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" to him on a daily basis and sometimes more frequently than that.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his only sister, Barbara Ann Abbott Paulsen.
