|Death: ||Nov. 27, 1897|
Died at Davis Flat age 76; a native of Kentucky. John was found dead in his home by June Booth. Mr. Booth discovered John lying dead on the floor on his back with a slight abrasion of the skin over the left eye and on the cheek. It was determined that Colwell had fallen, striking on a small box that stood nearby. At the inquest held by Coroner Burden it was discovered the deceased was subject to dizzy spells and had doubtless expired during one of them. The jury returned a verdict of death from natural causes. John was a pioneer of this county and mined at Shaw's Flat in early days. He was survived by a wife residing in Sonora.
