PRIVATE COMPANY B
NORTH CAROLINA CAVALRY
CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY
George Washington Ervin was a son of Abner Ervin and Molsey Basden Ervin of Onslow County. George married Martha Almira Grant Ervin, daughter of Reuben Grant and Hettie (or Hattie) Jarrott.
Records show their children as: William Smith Ervin, Paul A. Ervin and Lillian G. Ervin. Their children lived with their parents well into their adult lives; Lillian remained until the time of her death in 1916, at age 36. That same year, his wife, Martha passed on, as well. George left this life 5 years prior to them, in 1911.
Though his military records have not yet been found at this writing, he is listed among the Confederate States Soldiers in the U.S. Veterans Gravesites.
The 1880 Census finds the family living with Abner, George's father, a widower at the time; with his sister Mary Ervin as well.
The Ervin and Basden (Baisden) families played a large and significant role in the prosperity of Onslow County. A family cemetery was named for Abner Ervin, George's father, on the original property in Richlands, well maintained and still owned by Ervin family.
