His parents were William & Willimiana Zahl who lived about a mile away. He died when a kerosene lamp burned him. It is said that his mother, even though she had 11 children, never forgot this tragic accident and walked about a mile each day to sit beside his grave. The cemetery is being overgrown with lilacs planted there in the late 1800, as well as some trees, but yet in 2011, the metal marker could be found. That was placed there in later years, as either no stone was placed for him, or it got so overgrown it could not be found.
