Leon Clarence Turnbow, former longtime Cushing OK resident, now of Enid OK, passed away September 29, 2011, in Enid at the age of 80 years. The son of the late Clarence S. Turnbow and Hazel Eva Wright Turnbow, Leon was born on October 24, 1930, southeast of Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School. He married Joyce Irene Wolff on February 27, 1954, in Cushing. Leon and Joyce were blessed with over 57 years of marriage. They had two sons, Alan and Jeff. Over the years the couple lived in Oklahoma City, Guymon OK, Cushing, and Enid. Leon was involved in the restaurant business, both in Guymon and Enid, retiring from work as an oilfield equipment distributor. Leon will long be remembered for his passion of raising, training, and racing in the Quarter horse industry. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, former member of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, and member of the Lutheran Church of our Redeemer. Leon served his Country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Helena.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; sons Alan Turnbow and wife Debby of The Woodlands TX, and Jeff Turnbow and wife Melodie of Enid; brothers Carl Turnbow and Gerald Turnbow, both of Drumright OK; sisters Wanda Hewitt of Yale OK and Geneva Cronk of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Jason Turnbow and wife Torry, Brandon Turnbow, Erin Turnbow, and Ryan Turnbow; step-granddaughter Lindsey Lewis and husband Major Scott Lewis; great-grandchildren Cassidy and Sloan Turnbow; step-great-grandchildren Jordynn and Malorie Lewis; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Duane Turnbow and infant brother Roland Eugene Turnbow.
