|Catherine M. "Kate" Harford Biter|
|Birth: ||Jan., 1837|
New York, USA
|Death: ||Apr. 26, 1925|
Parents were born in New York.
Catherine died tragically due to an automobile accident on the Napa/St. Helena highway (now Hwy 29). Her touring car crashed into a truck making a left hand turn as her driver was passing at a high rate of speed. With her were her son, Ben F. Biter, daughter-in-law, Cecilia Biter, John Podesta of San Francisco, another man and two small children from Cecilia's previous marriage, Francis and Annie. Cecilia was hospitalized with serious injuries.
There were no serious injuries to the others, including the truck driver.
Her death certificate shows her first name as Caroline. But that's the only record carrying her name as such. The informant was her son Ben, but believe he got the data confused. Also confusing is that "The Napa Journal" reported on April 28, 1925 that Mrs. Biter died at the St. Helena Hospital while the death certificate states she died at the St. Gothards Rest Home in St. Helena. Presumably, she'd been living there at the time of her death.
Kate was the sister of Joseph O. Harford, also buried in this cemetery.
