Fred Hinson of New Bern, 89 passed away peacefully in his home, Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
He was born on October 13, 1920 in Duplin County.
Fred was a loving husband and great provider for his family. He retired as Section Foreman from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 38 years of service, with never using a day of sick leave. Fred loved gardening and he gave most of the vegetables to his family and friends. He always remembered his six daughter's birthdays by giving them and envelope with a dollar for each year of their age. Fred will be tremendously missed by his family.
Preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Hattie Hinson, an infant son, William Elbert Hinson, and five brothers, Alvie Hinson, Earl Hinson, Allie Hinson, Rolland Hinson, Ralph Hinson and one infant sister.
He leaves behind his wife, Lucille J. Hinson, of sixty seven years; six daughters, Carrie H. Buck and husband Carlton of Vanceboro, Jean H. Purifoy and husband Grady of Bridgeton, Linda H. Gragg and husband Roger of Linville, Virginia H. Edwards and husband Glen of Spring Garden, Marie H. Fillingame and husband Franklin of Vanceboro, Frances H. Parker and husband Eric of Kinston; Fifteen Grand Children, Danny Buck and wife Rosiland of Vanceboro, Sharon Craft and husband Major of Vanceboro, Melody Moore and husband Ben of New Bern, Kimberly Hunter and husband Richard of Vanceboro, Patty Weatherington and husband Buddy of Pollocksville, Angie Johnson and husband Pat of Kinston, Cindy Williams and husband Wayne of Kinston, Anthony Riggs and wife Shannon of Kinston, Pam Edwards of Spring Garden, Lori Jones and husband Graham of Maysville, Sheila Wall and husband Phillip of Clay Root, Tina Bryan and husband Gary of Vanceboro, Jessica Anderson and husband Jay of Vanceboro, Erica Sanderson and husband Jason of New Bern, and Brad Parker of Kinston; eighteen great-grandchildren, Dana Pait, Kelli Pait, Zachary Johnson, Landon Hunter, Logan Hunter, Jace Weatherington, Tyler Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Chris Davis, Ashley Davis, Madisen Riggs, Brittany Scott, Jason Jones, Justin Jones, Joshua Jones, Jessica Jones, Austin Wall, Taylor Bryan, Bailey Bryan, Levi Anderson; one great great grandchild, Allie Jo Davis; five step great-grandchildren, Matthew Manning, Sarah Manning, Emily Moore, Kaitlyn Moore and Ryan Rhodes.
Funeral Services were in the Cotten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Welch and Rev. Mike Scott officiating.
The interment will be at the Fort Barnwell Baptist Church Cemetery.
