Augustinus/Augustine Wendel was born to Johann Phillip and Anna Margarheta Diehl or Thiel in Framersheim, Germany either in 1714 or 1716 with some original records suggesting 1714, however, the ship's manifest of the 'Samuel' which arrived in Philadelphia from Rotterdam on August 11, 1732 shows the age of Augustinus Wendel to be 16, implying his birth was in 1716.
Augustine and other members of his family relocated to Virginia and in later years three brothers are well documented through their Virginia history: Valentine b. 1715, Augustine b. 1714 or 1716, and Christopher b. 1709-1715 depending on sources. According to 'Ancestry and Descendants of the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia 1714-1750 by Dr. Benjamin Holtzclaw, "Christopher, Augustine and Valentine Windle (Wendel) all came to Virginia from Germany prior to 1740 and were almost certainly brothers. The Frederick Co. records show that Augustine Windle, Valentine Windle, and Christopher Windle were all naturalized May 5, 1747 being German Protestants who had lived in Virginia over 7 years and that they had all taken the sacrament in preparation for naturalization from Rev. Samuel Klug (who was the second pastor of the Hebron Lutheran Church) (Frederick Co. O.B. 2, p. 238)". Holtzclaw continues: "The three men were all granted land in Frederick Co., Va. on the same date, July 23, 1750, Valentine being granted 200 acres, Augustine 250 acres and Christopher 400 acres (Northern Neck Grants, Book "G", pp. 375, 376 and 378). This land fell into Shenandoah Co. on the organization of that county, and all three of the Windles lived there and died, all three leaving wills".
As land-owning citizens brothers Augustine, Valentine and Christopher Windle were able to vote. Their names appear on the election polling sheets dated July 24, 1758, Frederick Co., Virginia, wherein they cast their votes in favor of George Washington for a seat in the House of Burgesses.
