Sister Mary Elizabeth Daly, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 1990) at Incarnate Word Hospital after a long illness. She was 77.
Sister Daly, who was born in Ireland, entered the congregation in 1930 in Dunmore, Ireland, and made her first vows in 1934 in San Antonio, Texas. She made her final vows in 1940.
Her first mission was at the Santa Rosa Hospital School of Nursing in San Antonio. She trained as a registered nurse and began working in 1939 as a supervisor of pediatrics at Santa Rosa.
She also worked as a surgical nurse at hospitals in Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, San Angelo and Paris, Texas, and in McAlester, Okla. She retired in 1984 to the Incarnate Word Convent.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Incarnate Word Convent Chapel, 2800 Normandy Drive, Normandy. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the convent chapel. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.
Among the survivors are five sisters, Sister Margaret Mary Daly of St. Louis County, Julia Clifford of Boston, Ellen Clifford and Anna Stack of Dorchester, Mass., and Bridie Murphy of Killarney, Ireland; and two brothers, Stephen Daly of Killarney and Patrick Daly of Dublin, Ireland.

She is the daughter of the late Timothy and Ellen Daly (nee Clifford).
