Sister Kathleen Krekeler, a professor at St. Louis University School of Nursing, died Wednesday (July 8, 1992) at Incarnate Word Hospital Convent after suffering from cancer. She was 63.

Sister Krekeler was on the faculty of the School of Nursing for 18 years. She was a professor of nursing and coordinator of the cardiopulmonary nursing program at the time of her death.

Before joining St. Louis University in 1974, she was director of nursing at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas. She also taught nursing for many years in Amarillo, Texas.

She was president-elect of the Delta Lambda Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

She was a member of the board of directors of Incarnate Word Academy and a member of the St. Louis chapter of the American Heart Association.

She was the author of numerous articles regarding nursing and patient education, cardiac and critical care, and ethics and spiritual care.

In 1989, she was one of 14 Missouri registered nurses honored for excellence in nursing by the statewide recognition program, A Tribute to Missouri Nursing.

Sister Krekeler was born in St. Louis. She entered the order of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1946. She earned her nursing degree at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio and her master's degree in medical surgical nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington. In 1974, she received her doctorate in education from the University of Texas at Austin.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier College Church, Grand and Lindell boulevards. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Collier's Funeral Home, 3400 North Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Ann, and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at the church. Burial will be in Incarnate Word Cemetery in Normandy.

Among the survivors are three sisters, Lorraine Buescher of south St. Louis County, Dorothy Krekeler of Shrewsbury and Mary Jane Schutzius of Florissant; and a brother, Donald Krekeler of St. Charles.
