A Poem In Memory Of Cornelius Schultz
Titled, "We remember them"

At the rising of the sun
and at its going down
We remember them.

At the blowing of the wind
and the chill of winter
We remember them.

At the opening of the buds
and in the rebirth of spring
We remember them.

At the blueness of the skies
and in the warmth of summer
We remember them.

At the rustling of the leaves
and in the beauty of autumn
We remember them.

At the beginning of the year
and when it ends
We remember them.

As long as we live,
they too will live;
for they are now a part of us,
as we remember them.

When we are weary and
in need of strength
We remember them.

When we are lost
and sick at heart
We remember them.

When we have joy
we crave to share
We remember them.

When we have decisions
that are difficult to make
We remember them.

When we have achievements
that are based on theirs
We remember them.

As long as we live,
they too will live;
for they are now
a part of us,

Cornelius Schultz was the son of Tobias Johann Schultz,
who according to online records was born in 1839 in Mertincke, Russia. Tobias died in 1923 and is buried in Dundee Kansas; his wife, Marie Tesmer, was born in 1835 in Karlswalde, Volynia, she died in 1914 and is buried in Dundee, Kansas. She was the daughter of Peter Jacob Tesmer, who was born in 1806 in Przechowka Prussia, her mother's name is unknown to this submitter. Her paternal
Grandparents were, Jacob Heinrich Tesmer and Anna "Ancke" Unruh.

Cornelius Schultz was born in the village of Karlswalde, in the Ostrog region of Polish-Russia on 15 April 1866. When he was 8 yrs. old he immigrated with his parents from to America on the ship, City of London. They docked in New York City on 18 November 1874. From there his parents came to Dundee, Kansas and lived there until he grew to young manhood.

Cornelius Schultz and Anna Voth married on December 2, 1889. She was the daughter of David Cornelius J. Voth
and Maria P. U. Jantz. Maria's parents were Peter Henry Jantz and Katherine P. Unruh. Maria's brother, Benjamin Peter Jantz is my Great Grandfather. Maria, her husband, and my Great Grandparents are all buried in the New Hopedale Mennonite Church Cemetery in Meno, Major Co. OK.
This latter family came to America on the ship, SS Vaderland in 1874. They remained in Pennsylvania for a few years before coming on to Kansas.

After their marriage, Cornelius and Anna lived close to Dundee, Kansas. Then they moved north of Pawnee Rock, Kansas. From there around 1898 or 1899 moved over to 5 miles south of Halstead, Kansas.

According to the 1900 Federal Census for Larkin Township, Halstead City, Harvey Co. Kansas, Cornelious is listed as C. T. Schultz birthdate given as April 1886 born in Russia. Immigration year given as 1874. He is stated as head of household, having been married in 1890 which
would be 10 years in 1900 that he and his wife had set
up household. His wife's name is given as Anna. Both he
and his wife were born in Russia. Children living at
home on this census were:

Fred age 12
Harry age 08
Peter age 07
Albert age 06
Susie age 05
Lizzie age 02
Lena age 01

In the year of 1904 in August the family moved south of Coldwater, Kansas on a homestead just across the line into Oklahoma. Cornelius was in poor health, toward his latter years, and his wife had to make a living. It was very hard on her, but she managed to raise her children and make ends meet. Cornelius died in Coy, Woods Co. Oklahoma on 14 October 1924.
