Lionel Dean Mays was the son of Samuel Mays (b. 4/20/1912 and d. 1/14/2005) and Laura Lee Sipes (1911-1996), married in 1934 in Lee County. Sam was the son of John A Mays and Martha Jane Reynolds Mays. Laura's parents were John Sipes (1884-1992) and Jane Little Sipes (b. 1890?). Sam served in the Army during WWII and was a coal miner.
