Dale Haistings, 89, of Hull passed away Friday evening (Sept 2, 2011), at his residence in Hull. Dale was born August 21, 1922 in Bowen IL to Fred and Altha Burnett Haistings. He married Mary June Little on May 10, 1945 at Summer Hill, IL and she survives. Dale was a Class A Certified Electrician and started his long career by helping to build and organize WBBA radio, and when the station was up and running, he worked there as the agriculture and farm report broadcaster for several years. He went on to broadcast in agriculture for WHMO and WTAD radio stations as well. He later worked at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, MO and was the Director of Engineering there until he retired in 1989. In earlier years Dale had also done some farming around Summer Hill, IL and was well known in the south part of Pike County. He was a Ham radio operator and liked woodworking. Dale loved trains and had an extensive model train collection. He also collected die cast toy tractors. He was of the Christian faith and was a 62 year Mason, being a 50 year member of the Hull Lodge # 910 A.F. & A.M. Survivors include his wife Mary of Barry Community Care Center, and a daughter, Linda (husband Mike) Harris of Hull. Also surviving are 2 grandsons; James Dale (Megan) Harris of St. Louis, MO and Gary Michael (April) Harris of Hull, along with 3 great-grandchildren; Alexis, Olivia, and Elliot Harris and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 half-brothers. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7th at 11:00 AM at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Bro. Bert Sapp officiating. Burial will be at the Taylor-Martin Cemetery near El Dara, IL. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry. Memorials may be left to Taylor Martin Cemetery.
