Neil William Barnwell, 53, went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2004, in Santa Maria.
Neil was born to William III and Pat Barnwell of Bridgeville, on November 26, 1950. He enjoyed life on Chalk Mountain Ranch and in Fortuna, where he graduated from high school in 1968. He proceeded to the College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly until starting a family in 1970.
In the early 1970s, Neil, his father and their families purchased a Ranch in Bonanza, Ore., where they enjoyed working hard together, farming and ranching, until the death of Neilís father in 1976.
Neil continued on in the Klamath Basin until the late 1980s when he relocated to Medford, Ore., met and married Renee Rumble, and spent 11 years working for United Grocers. From there, he and his wife spent time in Willows, where they were blessed with a multitude of friends and were instrumental in beginning a bible study and eventually a wonderful church which is still going strong. Through a series of many wonderful trials and miracles, Neil became a Born-Again Christian in 1983, and over the course of these past many years, a passion for the Lord and the understanding of the deep things of His word grew in Neil, and he shared that passion, knowledge and wisdom with any and all who would listen.
From Willows, Neil and his wife spent a short time in Redding. They settled in Santa Maria, where Neil successfully built up a small trucking company that he and his wife ran together.
Neil worked hard all of his life at everything he set his hand to, whether it be ranching, farming or trucking, or loving people and worshipping the Lord. He was an avid 49er fan as well as an LA Dodger fan.
Neil and Renee were able to spend 16 precious years together. Over the course of those years, they built a huge extended church body and had loving friends throughout Southern Oregon, California and beyond.
On August 6, 2003, Neil was diagnosed with Leukemia and his life as well as the lives of all those who loved him forever changed. He attempted chemotherapy at the City of Hope in Southern California, in hopes of receiving a stem cell transplant, but the chemotherapy was unsuccessful. Neil, with his wife, was sent home to enjoy the time remaining with his family and friends, and this is what he did until the Lord took him home.
Neil touched the lives of all who knew him with his loving, gentle eyes and his warm, embracing smile. He was a friend to all he met. He loved the unlovable and gave his all for his wife and family and friends. He will be painfully and deeply missed.
Neil was preceded in death by his father, Bill, in 1976.
He leaves behind his wife, Renee of Santa Maria; mother, Pat and her husband of Klamath Falls, Ore.; sister, Nita and her husband of Arroyo Grande; son, Nathan, his wife and Neilís two grandsons, Nolan, 4, and Caleb, 2 and new granddaughter, Amy, all of Fortuna; daughter, Gail, her husband and Neilís grandson, Tyler, 1, of Superior, Wis.; and nephews and their children.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, May 29, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Hydesville Community Church, 3296 Hwy 36, Hydesville.
A Graveside Service is planned the following day for close family and friends at the William Barnwell Memorial Cemetery, in Blocksburg.
