Ann Howard was born at sea on April 6, 1844 when her family was in the process of migrating to the United States.

Her father, John "Jack" Howard, was from Tipton, Staffordshire County, England. The family was living on Church Lane in Tipton at the time of the 1841 English Census. The entire family was involved in the stone industry there.

The family initially lived in Greene, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, but then settled in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky where coal mining was a prevalent trade.

On March 3, 1863, Ann married Ebren Hayden in Campbell. Ebren and Ann moved to Covington, Kenton County,Kentucky. A sister, Mary Howard, had married Martin Cummings and residing in that area. Martin Cummings' brother, Edward, had become quite successful and was helping many of the family members embark on the family business involving major contracts with the railroad. There was money to be made, and Edward wanted all of his family to cash in. Ebren remained in the foundry business and had moved to Windsor, Shelby County, Illinois by 1880.

The couple had 12 children, including: Mary Alice, Born 1864; John Ebren, born 1865; George Hosia, born 1867; Ella Susanna, born 1869; Bessie Eaves, born 1871; Charles Washington, born 1873; Mary R "Molly, born 1875; Roseella H "Rosa", born 1878; Harry Belanus, born 1883; and Lillian, born 1885.

Mr. Hayden died on October 7, 1895 and Ann died on December 17, 1908. They are both buried in Bethany Cemetery in Windsor Township, Shelby Co, Illinois.
