The daughter of Augustine Smith Magill and Frances Weeks.
One of the two hundred people who perished in the Last Island Hurricane of 1856. Last Island is officially known as Isle Derniere.
Mary Ida, together with her brother, Augustine and Dr. and Mrs. Frances Weeks Magill Pruett, had gone to Isle Derniere, a popular bathing place off the coast of Louisiana. During a horrific hurricane and tidal wave, the island was submerged. The Weeks and Pruett family members were among those drowned.
