Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. Burial followed at United Reformed Cemetery in Hills.
Johanna Van Driessen was born on May 30, 1914, to Dick and Johanna (Burgers) Van Driessen in Inwood, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm near Inwood and later at Beaver Creek. She attended rural schools and graduated from Beaver Creek High School. She then helped area families with housework.
On June 3, 1938, she married William Ackerman at her parents' home. The couple farmed near Luverne for 26 years. Her husband, William, died on Feb. 12, 1966. Following his death she moved to Luverne. She worked as a nurse's aide at Luverne Community Hospital for the next 12 years and retired in October 1979. In September 2000 she sold her home and moved into an apartment in Luverne.
She was a charter member of the Christian Reformed Church, Luverne, and belonged to the Mary Martha Society for 49 years. She also taught Sunday school and Catechism for many years. She made many afghans, quilts and crocheted doilies for her family and friends. She enjoyed doing needlework, baking and walking.
Mrs. Ackerman is survived by three grandchildren, Barbara (Brad) Bos, Steen, Bryce (Pam) Brands, Luverne, and Bryan Brands (fiancée Sarah Schultz) St. Cloud; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Ackerman; an infant son, Peter Ackerman; a daughter, Janice Nath; two brothers, John and Ernest Van Driessen; and two sisters, Jennie Van Roekel and Margaret Top.
