Mr.Farmer was born in Florence County, a son of the late Thomas Span Farmer and Henrietta Hoffmeyer Farmer. He was a graduate of Florence High School and was a U.S. ARMY veteran of WORLD WAR II having served in the European Theater.
He was a life-long member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, a member of the Eugene Farmer Sunday School Class, served as Sunday School Superintendent and served in various other offices in the church. He was a member of Pearce Hunting Club and was a full scholarship donor to the Gamecock Club of the University of South Carolina for more than 25 years. He retired in 1993 from farming and as a pecan buyer for the Young's Pecan Co.
He was preced in death by his parents; three brothers, Rev. E.L. Farmer, Quay Farmer and Phillip Farmer and a sister, Janie Myers.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Sibyl Margaret Worsham Farmer of Florence; a daughter Pamela Farmer of Florence; a son, David (Mary) Farmer of Florence; two grandsons, David Farmer Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott Haselden of Florence; a granddaughter, Brandy (Robert) Evans of Columbia; a great-grandson, Robby Evans of Columbia; a brother, Thomas S. Farmer of Summerville; a special niece, Jane Farmer of Florence; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 22 in Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
