The funeral of Benjamin F. Koppes, whose untimely death occurred Jun 25 as a result of being thrown from a horse, took place from the IOOF hall in Centerville Sunday afternoon, June 27th.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Roger J. Malloy and burial was in the Catholic Cemetery. The funeral was one of the largest held in Centerville for many years. Friends and family of the deceased being in attendance from all parts of the basin and Garden Valley. The floral offerings were abundant and very beautiful.
The pall bearers were H.C. Granger, Jesse Thom, Luther R. Van Winkle, Charles Youren, Isaac Van Winkle, and Wm. Lawson.
The deceased was born in Pioneerville on Feb 25, 1884, and had spent nearly his entire life in Boise County and near his birth place. He comes from a family of old and respected pioneers, as was evidenced by the many who were present at the bier on Sunday.
He leaves a wife, Myrtle Young Koppes and two boys, Ben, age five and Hermann, age three years, his mother, Mrs. Rose Koppes, widow of Michael Koppes, a grandmother, Mrs. A. Lind, and five brothers, John, Ralph, Archie, Jake and Carl; and a sister Miss Gertrude Koppes, all residing in Centerville.
