He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Edd A. Blackwelder of Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina. He entered the service 15 July 1943. He was a volunteer for the Paratroopers and received his Boots & Whip and Diploma. He was killed in action 10 January 1945 in Belgium after having served for six months overseas.
He was awarded the EAMET Medal and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
