Arvel Jackson, 67, of Clayton, Oklahoma passed away November 7, 2008 in Clayton. He was born October 1, 1941 in Dunbar, Oklahoma to Edgar N. and Nettie (Garman) Jackson.

Arvel, retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22-1/2 years of service, where he served as a SMSGT in the Vietnam War.

He later retired from ARAMCO Oil Company in Houston, Texas as head of security.

He then served as the Mayor of Clayton for 5 and a half years, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion.

He is survived by his former wife, Carolyn Jackson of Livingston, Texas; a daughter, Brenda Jackson of Livingston, Texas; granddaughter, Ashley Bland of Conroe, Texas; Grandson, Kenneth Bland of Conroe, Texas; cousin, Dale Jackson, of Clayton, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Sally Denton, of Clayton, Oklahoma; and two nieces, Cheryl Burleson of Clayton, Oklahoma; and Portia Wickware, of Arpelar, Oklahoma.

He is preeded in death by his parents; a son Dwayne Ellis Jackson; and a brother, Meredith Jackson.

Funeral services were held November 11, 2008 at the Clayton School Auditorium in Clayton, Oklahoma with Reverend David Jackson officiating.

Interment followed at Clayton Old Town Cemetery in Clayton.

Pallbearers were, Thomas Hendershot, Tom Lucas, Ty Glaudrone, Steve Henry, Nathan Lucas, Stan Briggs. Honorary Pallbearers were, Scott Pace, Jimmy Long, Steve Rouse, Don Hairrell, Ron Hairrell, Mark McIntosh, Justin Jackson, and Thomas Hairrell.

Services were under the direction of Clayton Funeral Home, Clayton, Oklahoma.
