Thomas E. Butler was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, July 6, 1866, and departed this life at his farm home at Mill Springs on August 28, 1934, being 66 years, 1 month and 22 days.

He was married to Ellen Barnett East on September 9, 1905 and to this union one son, Alpha Butler, was born, and the son, wife, one brother and one sister survive to mourn his death.

Bro. Butler became a member of the Christian Church, when the church was organized, and the house of worship, built at Mill Springs in the year 1925. He was elected a deacon in the Mill Springs Christian Church and to the time of his death he lived a faithful Christian life.

"Uncle Tom" as he was affectionately known to his many friends, was a good, kind-hearted, honest and loyal citizen. All who knew Uncle Tom, as this writer did, loved him. Except when he was kept away by some providential hindrances, he never missed a Sunday School nor preaching service at his church. From the time he became a member of the church to the day of his death, he served a caretaker of the Christian Church property at Mill Springs.

Because Uncle Tom was so punctual and faithful to his church, he will be greatly missed by every member of the church, and his place will be hard to fill, if indeed his place at the church can be filled at all.

The writer preached Uncle Tom's funeral service in the church he loved so well, on the late afternoon of August 29th. A large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives was present.

His was the first grave to be opened in the Christian Church burial plot that was laid out when the building was erected in 1925.

For this writer the world will be poorer because of the home going of Thomas E. Butler, but what is our worldly loss is no doubt Heaven's eternal gain.
