James Timothy Carter, Jr.

The funeral for James Timothy Carter, Jr., 90, of 151 Antioch Church St., Ridgeway, who died December 26, 2013, at home, will be held at noon on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Shiloh Apostolic Temple with Elder James F. Millner, officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends for one half-hour before the service at the church and other times at the home.

He was born in Ridgeway, Va., on April 5, 1923, to James Timothy Carter, Sr. and Annie Lovely Burgess Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both of his wives, Annie Jones Hairston Carter and Ellen Catherine Wright Carter; a daughter, Brenda Louise Carter; a son, James Tyrone Carter; two sisters, Ella Galloway Dalton and Ruth Carter Hairston and one brother, John Willie Carter.

He worked at Raven Boats and American Furniture of Martinsville where he retired with over 30 years of service. He was a pioneer member of Shiloh Apostolic Temple in Ridgeway, Va.

He leaves to rejoice in his memory a devoted and loving family—three daughters, Faith Carter Dodson of Martinsville, Va., Kelley Carter Hairston of Danville, Va. and Delois Hairston of Virginia Beach, Va.; six sons, Paris Cornelius Carter of Ridgeway, Va., John Willie Carter of Greensboro, N.C., Timothy Wayne Carter of Madison N.C., Jerold Anthony Carter of Martinsville, Va., Jeffrey Cornelius Carter of Ridgeway, Va. and Christopher Larry Carter of Bassett, Va.; four daughters-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Carter of Ridgeway, Va., Mrs. Deborah Carter of Madison, N.C., Mrs. Michelle R. Carter of Martinsville, Va. and Mrs. Teresa Carter of Bassett, Va.; and two sons-in-law, Mr. Tommie Dodson of Martinsville, Va. and Mr. Glenn Hairston of Danville, Va.; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, twenty grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
