Geraldine Ballinger, 96, of Quincy, IL and formerly of Baylis, IL, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Home in Quincy. She was born January 20, 1916 in Fairmount Township, Pike County, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Eva Martin McLaughlin. She married Ralph Rigney in December of 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1937, and later married Fred Ballinger on August 5, 1962 in Baylis and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2010.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Betty Lou) Rigney of Quincy; one daughter, Betty (Roger) Stephens of Mendon, IL; six grandchildren, Robert E. (Bonnie) Rigney, Jr., Tamara M. (Fred) Fleischman, Lisa Ann Rigney, Rhonda (Rich) Dormire, Mark (Sarah) Stephens and Jeff (Sheila) Stephens; thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-granddaughters; one sister, Florence Chappell of Decatur, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Wayne & Merle McLaughlin.
She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She worked as a beautician and was employed as a postal clerk at the Baylis Post Office for over thirty years. She was a member of the Baylis United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, DAR, Quincy Doll Club and served as 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed all kinds of craftwork, especially sewing and knitting, spending her free time making afghans and quilts for her family.
Services were entrusted to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of Pittsfield, Illinois.
