In Washington, DC, on February 18, 2011 shortly after 8:00 a.m., Arthur William Johnson, "Art", sadly but peacefully succumbed to prolonged advanced Parkinson's Disease at ninety-one years of age.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Anne Hale Johnson, of Bethesda, MD, and is the loving father of four surviving children; Eric Young Johnson (Paula) of Daytona Beach, FL, Paul Emery Parker-Johnson (Deb) of Brookline, MA, Joy Sanborn Johnson of Denver, CO, and Randall Hale Johnson of Comus, MD. He is predeceased by his youngest child, Christiane Brooks Johnson of Potomac, MD. Art leaves five surviving grandchildren; Avery, Becca, Nathaniel, Megan, and Vivian. He is predeceased by a grandson, Ezra Griffith Carlson.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on April 4, 1919 to Joseph Nathaniel and Anna Ljung Johnson, he is a graduate of Colgate University, Hamilton, NY class of '40. Mr Johnson built the foundation for his lifelong career as a meteorologist in the Army Air Corps at the onset of WWII and subsequently worked in the weather service as a distinguished civil service diplomat.
For the past fifty years until recently, Art and Anne lived in Montgomery County, MD, Potomac, raising their family and attending the congregations of both Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda and the Georgetown Presbyterian Church, Washington, DC.
A memorial service will be held for him at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 3115 P Street, NW, his final place of rest.
