DUSTIN - Eugene HARJO, Sr., was born April 7, 1945 in Talihina. He died in November, 2002.

Funeral services where held November 23 at Thewarley Methodist Church with Rev. Malcolm Tiger and Rev. Alex Lowe officiating. Pall bearers were Kevin Atchico, Bear McClain, Legus Barnett, Roger Butler, Jack Yargee, and Harry Harjo. Honorary pall bearers were George Cook, Bobby Yargee, Roley Johnson, Curtis Smith, Turner Scott and John King. Interment was the Johnson Family Cemetery.

He was raised in the Ragtown area and attended Moss School where he was active in Baseball. He also attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas where he played football. He graduated from Haskell in 1964, joined the Army and served from 1964 to 1966.

He was a welder and joined General Motors when it opened and worked there until his retirement.

He married Linda Gouge and was an active member in Thewarley Methodist Church and also supported Alabama/Quassarte.

He was an avid University of Oklahoma fan, coached his son's little league team and was a football chain gang for Crooked Oak High School during his son's football years there.

He was the son of Wade and Linda Johnson HARJO, who preceded him in death. Three of his siblings also preceded him in death, brother Marcey HARJO, and two sisters, Diane Harjo LOWE and Lydia Harjo BLUEBOOK.

His survivors include son, Eugene HARJO, Jr.; three daughters, Teresa NOTCH, Callie GARCIA and Jessica STEWARD, all of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Anna SMITH and Eliza BARNETT both of Wetumka; Donna HARJO of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Florence ATCHICO of Harrah; two brothers, Willie HARJO of Chelsea and Jimmy HARJO of Wetumka; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
