05/01/1861 - Enlisted as Pvt., Capt. Humphrey Bate's Co., 2nd TN Infantry (Robinson's), Castalian Springs, TN [Note: This company subsequently became Co. K, 2nd TN Infantry.]
05/11/1861 - Accepted appointment as Surgeon, Provisional Army of the Confederate States
05/14/1861 - Mustered-in as Pvt., Capt. Humphrey Bate's Co., 2nd TN Infantry (Robinson's), Lynchburg ,VA [Note: It is not clear why Dr. Kennedy was mustered-in as a Private at this time since he had already accepted the position of Surgeon of the same regiment.
06/13/1861 - Signed receipt for $113.40 pay as Surgeon for the period May 11, 1861 to May 31, 1861 at $162.00/mo.
12/31/1861 - Surgeon, 2nd TN Infantry, Camp Holmes & Camp Currin [Note: Camp Holmes was a conscript camp of instruction near Raleigh, NC.]
01/30/1862 - Surgeon, 2nd TN Infantry
05/24/1862 - As Surgeon, 2nd TN Infantry, and Brigade Surgeon, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Corps, Army of Tennessee, at a Camp near Corinth, MS, prepared a Certificate of Disability, " Lieutenant. Wm. W. Ferguson of Col. Jhn. Pegram's Engineer Corps having applied for a certificate on which to ground an application for leave of absence, I do hereby certify that I have carefully examined this officer, and find that he is suffering from jaundice and has been since the 8th of April 1862 - and that in consequence thereof, he is, in my opinion, unfit for duty. I further declare my belief that he will not be able to resume his duties in a less period than 21 days from date. T. J. Kennedy, Surgeon, 2nd Tenn Regt., C. S. A. 12/02/1862 - In a letter written by Surgeon David Wendel Yandell, from Murfreesboro, TN, to Surgeon Andrew Jackson Foard, Medical Director, Dept. No. 2., "Sir, Surg T. J. Kennedy of Second Tenn. Regt., Col. Bate, Comd., Gen. Cleburne's Brigade, Buckner's Div, 2nd Corps, Army Miss. received a furlough in July last, at Tupelo, Miss, for 18 or 20 days. Nothing having been heard from him since that date. I respectfully suggest that his name be dropped from the list of Medical Officers. Yr. obt. svt., D. W. Yandell, Med Dir. 2nd Corps, A.M." [Docketing on this letter reads,"S.G. O. Dec. 19, 62, Res. referred to A. & I. G. that Surgeon T. J. Kennedy, 2nd Regt. Tenn. V., be dropped from the rolls for prolonged absence without leave. S.P. Moore, Surg. Genl."]
