DYKES, HARRELL RAY "RAY"
Harrell R. Dykes passed away peacefully at Shands UF Saturday, September 26, 2009 from a sudden illness. He was born October 11, 1936 in Cochran, GA to Claude and Alice Dykes. Mr. Dykes served our country in the Air Force as a medic for 8 yrs. After Honorable Discharge he furthered his dedication to the VA Medical Center in Dublin, GA and then transferred to Gainesville, FL as a Patient Care Technician for 37 years. After retirement he continued his life by caring for his great-grandchildren and his family duties at home as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Harrell R. Dykes was preceded in death by his father, Claude Dykes; mother, Alice Dykes; Brother, Ernest Dykes; Sister, Mary Kate Holland; Brother, Benny Dykes. He is survived by his Wife, Sally Dykes; Brother, Claude Dykes, Jr.; Sons, Michael Dykes, Lynn Dykes (Josie); Daughters, Janice Morris, Pamela Vincent (Sam), Sylvia Plemmons; Grandchildren, Jason Patterson (Michelle), Adam Winkles, Jessica Blandon (Gary), Jennifer and Jeffrey Plemmons, Sean, Sammy and Michael Vincent; Great-Grandchildren, Faith and Joshua Patterson, Skylar Posner; plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. Dykes attended Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson, Florida. He loved spending time with his family at outings and holidays. He loved gardening. Ray was a die hard Gator fan and enjoyed watching games with family and friends throughout the years. Mr. Dykes was most devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his later years.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church 818 CR 20A in Johnson, Florida with Pastor L.D. O'Steen and Pastor Claude Dykes, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Johnson Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME HAWTHORNE, US 301 SOUTH AT LAKE AVENUE.
