Mary Elizabeth Mitchell was the daughter of Henry G. Mitchell and Martha McPhertus Mitchell. She married Charles Alexander Gossom, 16 Jan 1862, in Kentucky. They had five children who lived to adulthood: Henry Mitchell Gossom b. in 1863; Mattie B. Gossom b. in 1866; Cadie E. Gossom b. 08 May 1868; Mary Clyde Gossom b. 03 Mar 1877; and Anna Florence Gossom b. 05 Feb 1880. All of the listed children were buried in IOOF Cemetery, Smith's Grove, Kentucky.
