"He worked for the Enterprise-Record from the ages of 16-18. Abbott served in the National Guard. He worked for Diamond Match from 1935-40 and in the contracting business from 1940-41. He then moved to the Bay Area and worked at Mare Island from 1941-47.
"On March 14, 1954, he married Gloria Selkirk in Chico. Abbott started in the electrical field and worked for Wells Electric from 1947-60 and for Woodland Electric from 1960 until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and working on his almond ranch. He had been a member of the First Christian Church since the age of 5. Abbott was also a member of SIRS No. 62, Native Sons of the Golden West, Chico Rod and Gun Club and Electrical Workers Union Local 442.
"In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Richard of Durham, Timothy of Susanville and Ronald Selkirk of Chico; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Kathleen Selkirk, died in 1972.
"Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private entombment will be in Chico Memorial Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Enloe Hospital Cardiac Unit, in care of the funeral home."
