George W. Akers died Monday afternoon at one o'clock at his home in East Pulaski, following an illness of several weeks from pneumonia fever which developed from a cold. The funeral was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from his late residence, interment following in Dora cemetery. Mr. Akers was a native of Carroll county, having been a son of James and Christina Marshall Akers. For some years he was engaged in the mercantile business at Barren Springs. Several years ago he purchased a store on Valley street which he conducted for some time. He also bought a home in East Pulaski and moved his family thereto. Some month ago he purchased the business of J.M. Hight and Co., on Main street, which he was conducting at the time of his death, a son C.T. Akers, being with him. About three weeks ago, he took a severe cold, which gradually grew worse, developing into pneumonia. He wife, Rhoda Ellen Reynolds, died some years ago. Two sons and one daughter survive. His age was 52 years, 2 months, and 28 days.
