Arthur Hitchcock Radasch, Barstow-Bestor Genealogy Descendants of John Barstow and George Barstow Including Families named Basto, Bastow, Bestow, Beairsto (South Yarmouth, Mass: n.p., 1964), p. 20-21. "After his children were born, Jonathan removed from Franklin to Tolland, Coinn. where he is found in the 1790 Census listed as Jno Bester with 6 persons in the family - two males over 16, one under 16, and 3 females. This would indicate that his son, Uriel, had died before that time. In 1800, he is listed in Stafford, Conn. with the same six persons in his family.
"In 1795, Jonathan Bestor of Tolland purchased land in Stafford from Benjamin Barrett. Jonathan was the only one in his branch of the Barstow family to adopt the family name of Bestor.
"In 1801, Jonathan acquired some land in the Sixteen Acres district of Springfield, Mass. which he sold in 1803. On both deeds his name is Jonathan Barstow but when he sold the land, witnesses to the deed were his sons, Jonathan Bestor, Jr. and Alvin, showing that the sons no longer used the name Barstow.
"In 1810 and 1820, Jonathan's family consisted only of himself and wife. In 1830 for Somers, Conn. as over 80. He moved to Monson shortly after that and died there in 1832. He and his wife are buried in Bennett Rd. Cemetery where one large gray slab marks the two graves. The name on the stone is Bester. There are no other Bestor graves nearby."
