Joseph was born Josef Frantisek to Vaclav and Josefa (Kotalik) Soulek in Stritez No.17, Milevsko District, Tabor County, Czechoslovakia and died in Perry OK. He married Rosalie Marie Cejka in 1876 and five children were born to this union. They immigrated to America shortly after their first child was born and farmed near Munden KS where their other four children were born. In 1894 they took part in the Cherokee Strip land run and homesteaded near Perry OK. While timbering near his home Joseph fell from a tree suffering a fractured skull and died. He was buried in the Bohemian Catholic Cemetery near his son Joseph who had died a year earlier.
