Benjamin was born in Washington County, Tennessee to Jacob & Anna Arnold Nead. Per 1900 census his father died when Benjamin was about 2 years of age. 1870 & 1880 censuses show the family living in Washington Co., Tennessee. Benjamin married Mary Serena Reid in Tennessee 1880-1883. Their 2 sons Walter Jacob & Hubert Claudius were born in Tennessee in 1884 & 1885 respectively. Benjamin & Mary moved to Texas in autumn of 1889; their daughter Birdy Ethel was born there in 1891. Per his obituary Benjamin was "afflicted with" a health problem in Sep 1895 & left Texas seeking a healthier climate. He moved to Columbia County, Washington seven months before he died there in 1897. I am guessing his health issue was "consumption" now known as tuberculosis based on his need for a healthier climate. In 1900 Mary was living in Williamson Co., Texas with her children & her mother. Mary & the children moved to Yakima Co., Washington shortly after this when she married John Melvin Plank. Benjamin has 3 sisters & 2 brothers. Only his sister Cornelia is known to have moved to Columbia Co. where she married Ernest Barden Hopkins. "His honest principles & clear character have won for him many friends in all communities where he has lived.
