Elizabeth "Bettie" was the tenth child and youngest daughter of West Alen Melton (1792-1846) and Susannah Anderson (1798-1842). Bettie married Cyrus Anthony Torbert (1824-1862) in Hollow Square, Greene County, Alabama on January 4, 1853 and they had six children together. After Cyrus' death in 1862, she married again in 1864 Francis Edward Bayol (1835-1900), and they had ten children together.
